Darlington College have appointed Newcastle based Chartered Building Surveyors, Harrow Consulting, to design and project manage a major redevelopment of their Central Park Campus, in Darlington.

The £2.5 million project includes an extension and remodelling of the Construction Department facility, and extension and remodelling of the Learning Resource Centre (LRC). The scheme will be carried out during the course of 2013, with works due to commence on site in the college summer break.

The Construction Department remodelling will provide state of the art training for students aged 16-19 years, with bespoke skills workshops for plastering, brickwork, electrical and plumbing trades. The extension will also house bespoke flexible teaching space, Green Energy and Gas Assessment facilities,  together with enhanced changing areas, cafe/bistro and student ‘break out’ zones.

The LRC will be expanded to increase the usable space for student learning, with flexible quiet zones for teaching and meeting requirements. The internal fit-out will be ultra modern, with ‘state of the art’ facilities to rival other elite college facilities within the region.

Harrow were chosen as the preferred Lead Consultant due to our ability to understand the client needs, requirements of the teaching curriculum, and proven ability to translate the needs of all stakeholders into successful projects. We have carried out a number of previous projects at the college, and all have been delivered with minimal disruption to the curriculum and building users. Our ability to deliver projects within tight timescales and restricted financial budgets has been recognised by the college.
