Sunderland Royal Hospital

Wayfinding and Site-wide Signage Strategy

Sunderland Royal Hospital commissioned Harrow Consulting to undertake a full review of the current signage and way finding strategy within the hospital, and external grounds.

The objective of the commission was to identify contraventions to statutory compliance, with particular consideration to DDA Regulations and NHS Signage guidelines.

Harrow Consulting analysed the current hospital use, by staff, visitors and patients, and produced a new Wayfinding Strategy aligned to the latest NHS guidelines. A full new signage scheme has been designed to compliment the strategy, which will be implemented during the course of 2013.

The Sunderland Royal Hospital site has benefited from extensive redevelopment in recent years, and the commission is considered essential in integrating the state of the art buildings with the first class patient service provision.

City Hospitals Sunderland is an Acute Trust providing a wide range of hospital services such as A&E, surgical and medical specialties, therapy services, maternity and paediatric care. They ensure that clinical practice remains at the forefront of medicine, and seek to adopt innovative ways of working to deliver a strong performance culture, which results in the Trust providing local communities with some of the highest quality healthcare in England.

Harrow were selected as the preferred consultant following a market tendering process, demonstrating the faith that the Trust has in our ability to provide first class bespoke property solutions.

This is an exciting phase in the hospital development, and we look forward to playing a major part in the ongoing success story.
